Justin Bieber & Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas” Duet

Joining in on the many holiday concerts taking place this weekend, Justin Bieber was among the illustrious performers at Stevie Wonder’s 16th annual House Full Of Toys benefit concert in Los Angeles on Saturday night (December 17).

Held at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, the 17-year-old Canadian sensation joined alongside Stevie to treat the crowd to a rendition of the holiday classic “Someday at Christmas”.

After the duet, Bieber continued on to offer up acoustic versions of songs including “Mistletoe” and “Baby,” as well as the Chris Brown penned track “Christmas Eve”.

Following the stage effort, Justin took to Twitter, writing, “so 4 years ago I sang this song in my hometown. now 4 years later I sang it 2nite with STEVIE WONDER! #NEVERSAYNEVER”

He thoughtfully added, “blessed and grateful. i love all of u and please show respect to eachother and others that i care about. be there for one another.”

With a Little Luck: A Novel

My good friend Caprice Crane’s new book, With a Little Luck, is out today. Yay, Caprice!

It’s gotten great reviews:

“Crane is one of the funniest writers of popular fiction around. The dialog (inner and outer) is laugh-out-loud, snort-inducing hilarious . . . Readers will want to cross their fingers and spit while throwing salt over their shoulders if it helps Berry reach her dreams. Highly recommended.”

Library Journal

“Fans of Stacy Ballis and Cara Lockwood will appreciate Crane’s effortlessly funny style, which is often attempted in popular fiction but is rarely this well executed…Lighthearted and charmingly honest.”

—Booklist

“[A] satisfying romantic comedy…[with] real character growth.”

—Kirkus Reviews

And even better blurbs:

“Romantic, poignant and funny—this book is a lucky find for lit fans. Caprice Crane is a nimble and gifted storyteller.”

—Diablo Cody, Academy Award-winning screenwriter of Juno

“A hilarious romp that oozes charm and giddy fun. Caprice Crane is a true talent.”

—Molly Jong-Fast, author of The Social Climber’s Handbook

“Witty, fast-paced, and sheer fun. Caprice Crane is a master of dialogue. Half the time I was reading this book I was smiling, which made me look like a crazy person on the subway.”

—Jancee Dunn, author of Don’t You Forget About Me and Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo?

“Absolutely charming and hilarious.”

—Missy Peregrym, star of the movie Stick It and ABC’s Rookie Blue

With a Little Luck scores in humor, head, and heart. In other words, it’s a perfect trifecta.”

—Karyn Bosnak, author of 20 Times a Lady (soon to be the major motion picture What’s Your Number?)

(Omg, who is that last fantastic blurber?) (I meant every word of it.)

And most importantly, she has the cutest dog ever (who likes to video chat with Bev):

Anyway, check it out, buy it—it’s fantastic!

Daniel Craig Calls ‘Dragon Tattoo’ Very ‘Adult’ Movie

‘Babysitters are going to get, hopefully, a lot of money out of this film,’ Craig says, predicting the mature set will flock to theaters.

Rape, murder, intrigue … the feel-bad movie of Christmas may not leave audiences feeling bright and merry but “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” star Daniel Craig suspects the dark drama will inspire smiles among at least one group.

“Look, I’m a David Fincher fan, so it was an easy choice to make when accepting this film,” Craig told MTV News at the film’s New York City premiere. “It’s a great story. It’s an adult movie. The babysitters are going to get, hopefully, a lot of money out of this film. That’s why I wanted to get involved.”

The film, based on the novel by late Swedish author Stieg Larsson, follows journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig) as he tries to solve the 30-year-old murder of teen Harriet Vanger, with the help of asocial hacker punk Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara). Mara has been earning raves for her performance as the damaged heroine and even netted a Golden Globe nomination on Thursday. Craig said he had no doubts as to the newcomer’s abilities.

“We all knew she was good. She’s just committed as an actress, and she made all of the right choices with David’s help and everyone else’s help,” he said. “She’s just blossomed as somebody. As I said, we knew from the beginning that she was good enough — it was everyone else who had the problem.”

Best known for her work in Fincher’s “The Social Network,” Mara returned the compliment, expressing gratitude for Craig’s help and guidance on set. “Daniel is an incredible actor, and I don’t think we’ve seen him in a role like this before, and he’s brilliant,” she said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better person to sort of have my coming out. He was very patient and generous with me.”

“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” opens December 20, a day earlier than its initial release date.

Busta Rhymes ‘Fortunate’ To Be Part Of Cash Money

‘They know how to let artists be artists,’ Busta tells MTV News.

Busta Rhymes most certainly respects the Cash Money conglomerate.

Some scratched their heads when the Dungeon Dragon announced last month that he had signed with Cash Money Records. Critics couldn’t fathom why the East Coast rap vet would ink with Birdman’s Southern-based, youth-driven label, but for Busta, the deal makes perfect sense.

“It’s real fortunate to be able to have a 20-year career run and partner up with the most powerful record company in the business 20 years later,” Busta told MTV News on Tuesday from the set of his Hype Williams-directed “Why Stop Now” video.

Bussa Bus began his career in 1991 as a member of the four-man Long Island, New York, group Leaders of the New School but went solo after the crew disbanded in 1993. The gravel-voiced speed rapper has since dropped eight solo albums and given hip-hop a number of memorable party anthems. Not only were “Woo-Hah! Got You All in Check,” “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” and “Pass the Courvoisier Pt. 2″ huge radio hits, each song also had high-priced, creative music videos attached to them. Combining his hitmaking ability and strong visuals has made Busta one of rap’s greatest and most unique artists.

The veteran continued to dominate this past year thanks to his scene-stealing verse on Chris Brown’s Grammy-nominated smash “Look at Me Now” and his guest spot on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV. At this point in his career, he was looking for a home that would continue to fuel his fire.

“They understand. They know how to nurture the music, they know how to let artists be artists, they know how to let you reach your fullest capability creatively,” Busta said of Cash Money.

Back in 1997, Lil Wayne was an oft-overlooked kid rapper, but he has steadily grown into a bankable soloist and the mega musical star he is now. Busta factored in Weezy’s trajectory when deciding on where he should sign. “Wayne is a perfect example. He reached his apex a little while ago, and he just continues to grow,” Busta said.

It isn’t just Tunechi, though. While officially signed to Young Money, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Lil Twist and Tyga all fall under the Cash Money umbrella. With a stable of successful artists, why wouldn’t Busta want to join the YMCMB team? “It feels good to see that,” he said of the label’s success. “It feels good to be a part of that.”

What do you think of Busta joining Cash Money? Let us know in the comments!

Best Movies Of 2011

From Muppets to magic, MTV counts down the top films of the year.
By MTV News staff

In 2011, Daniel Radcliffe brought the “Harry Potter” franchise to a firecracker of an ending after a decade bewitching the multiplex. Ryan Gosling played kissy-face with Carey Mulligan in an elevator, then turned around and smashed a dude’s skull in. Kristen Wiig made us laugh, Martin Scorsese made us gasp, and Kermit the Frog made us want to sing along.

Memorable moments, all. But what makes a great film — what makes it one of the best of the year — is not just a buzzworthy few seconds here and there, but a moviegoing experience packed with them.

How, then, do we pick the Best Movies of 2011? How do we weigh Joe Cornish’s genre-busting directorial debut against Matthew Vaughn’s rescue job of our favorite comic book mutants? Do we favor George Clooney’s ability to elicit laughs in the most tragic of circumstances, or do we bow down to the staggeringly raw performance by Rooney Mara?

Those are questions no one person could answer. So we gathered a roundtable of the savviest minds at MTV to discuss, debate, argue and occasionally curse about everything that went down at the multiplex this year: Eric Ditzian, Josh Horowitz and Amy Wilkinson of MTV Movies and Kevin Polowy and Brooke Tarnoff of NextMovie. In the end, we came up with our 10 picks:

10. “Attack the Block”
In a year filled with alien-invasion movies from the likes of Michael Bay and J.J. Abrams, it says a lot that Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s little indie that could, “Attack the Block,” was the best of the bunch. Taking science fiction for a ride through the gang-ridden streets of South London results in a wildly inventive and hilarious twist on the genre, complete with what has to be the absolute best creature design seen in any movie all year. Believe, bruvs: This suspenseful, action-packed and endlessly charming movie was the sci-fi flick of 2011. Allow it. — Josh Wigler

9. “The Descendants”
“The Descendants” meant a change of pace for its star George Clooney. His character, Matt King, couldn’t use Clooney’s trademark charm to fix his broken family after a boating accident takes away his wife and the mother of his two teenage daughters. The Clooney we saw was not the suave movie star, but a confused schlub, figuring things out as he goes. The result is a complex and emotionally honest film that would be sad if it weren’t so hilarious. — Kevin Sullivan

8. “50/50″
Harrowing, heartbreaking and at times hilarious, “50/50″ is perhaps the most honest onscreen portrayal of cancer ever. And it’s one you’ll actually want to watch. The film follows 27-year-old Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as he’s diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, battling the disease with the help of friend Kyle (Seth Rogen) and therapist-in-training Katherine (Anna Kendrick). Based on the real-life experience of Rogen’s friend Will Reiser (who penned the screenplay), “50/50″ doesn’t apologize for finding the funny in a bad situation. And that’s why we like it. — Amy Wilkinson

7. “The Muppets”
It’s “The Muppets” for the new millennium: Kermit and friends return to theaters after a painful 12-year absence, updated for a new generation by writer/co-star/”it” schlump Jason Segel and songs from “Flight of the Conchords” star Bret McKenzie. If the story starts off a little depressing — the Muppets have gone their separate ways and their studio is falling apart — that’s nothing a little choreographed dancing, Amy Adams and a chicken chorus can’t fix. — Brooke Tarnoff

6. “X-Men: First Class”
Matthew Vaughn’s prequel had a lot of things working against it, namely Bryan Singer’s two “X-Men” films and the talented actors in those films who are already associated with the classic Marvel mutants. Vaughn smartly found a way to use that to his advantage, giving fans nods to Singer’s films through well-placed cameos while laying the foundation for an entirely new franchise based on the characters’ backstories, anchored by the very talented and bromantic James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr/Magneto.” — Kara Warner

5. “Hugo”
With so many different ways to see a movie, the magic of going to a theater and sitting in the dark seems like an outdated idea. Martin Scorsese attempted to recapture the feeling that made the movies such a special thing in the first place with “Hugo.” Through the story of an orphan boy living in a Paris train station, “Hugo” dives into the creation of movies and reminds us all of why the movies are a place to see dreams come true. — K.S.

4. “Bridesmaids”
“Bridesmaids” is one of those rare comedic gems in which everything worked: The crazy talented cast, led by Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph and Melissa McCarthy in a killer breakout performance; the one-liners, many of which were ad-libbed; that unpleasant-but-hilarious scene at the bridal store; Jon Hamm playing a d-bag — it was all so good and so funny. And not just funny for women, funny for everyone, to the tune of a $169 million box-office gross. — K.W.

3. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″
All good things must come to an end. When it came time for the “Harry Potter” series to fulfill that old adage with this summer’s “Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” it wasn’t just a good thing. It was — if you’ll forgive our sappiness — a magical thing. Watching Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow into their heroic owns over the past decade has been a thrilling ride filled with tragedy and hope, despair and triumph, death and life. It wasn’t just the best “Potter” movie of all time; it was one of the best movies of the year. — J.W.

2. “Drive”
In a movie year that could easily have been renamed the Year of Gosling, the flasher of abs, breaker-up of street fights and all around great Canadian guy’s finest performance was as a nameless driver (regardless of what the Hollywood Foreign Press might have you believe). You either wanted to be him or be with him. No matter what, you couldn’t take your eyes of him. While the box-office bow of “Drive” lacked punch (to date, it has grossed $34.7 million), the film’s cultural impact has been huge, inspiring some first-rate spoofs and unleashing a soundtrack that became required listening for anyone with an iPod and half a soul. There was no cooler movie in 2011, and there is probably no other movie on this list we’ll still be talking about in 2021. — Eric Ditzian

1. “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”
Devotees of Stieg Larsson’s wildly popular books (or the Swedish-language movie versions) need not fret: “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” is in good hands with master filmmaker David Fincher. The director follows up the excellent “Social Network” with another tour de force, injecting the murder mystery that introduces us to outcast hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) and embattled journalist (Daniel Craig) with style, intensity and relentless suspense. Mara is a revelation, and the film’s daunting 160-minute runtime breezes by thanks to one heart-racing scene after the next. Dark and tough to watch at times, but a triumph all around. — Kevin Polowy

‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows’ Cheat Sheet

We have everything you need to know about the Guy Ritchie sequel.
By Kara Warner

Robert Downey Jr. in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”

After the spectacular success of “Sherlock Holmes” — $515 million in worldwide ticket sales and a Best Actor Golden Globe win for Robert Downey Jr., both of which were unpredictable accomplishments given the fact that the film arrived in theaters at the same time as James Cameron’s “Avatar” — it was no surprise when Warner Bros. announced plans for a sequel.

To celebrate the arrival of “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” in theaters Friday (December 16), here’s our comprehensive cheat sheet of everything you need to know about the action-packed, Guy Ritchie-directed sequel.

A New World of Possibilities
Amazingly enough, talk of a “Sherlock” sequel began three months prior to the original’s release, when Brad Pitt was rumored to be joining the cast as Moriarty and there were rumblings that it would be shot in 3-D. Neither of those things panned out, but we did eventually learn that the sequel would be filmed in Paris and London and that instead of “Sherlock Holmes 2,” the film’s title would be “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.”

Fresh Meat
Early on, we learned that Rachel McAdams’ return as Irene Adler was trimmed to a “very small part,” which made way for the addition of a new female lead, Noomi Rapace, who originated the role of Lisbeth Salander in Sweden’s “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” Ritchie summed up her character thusly: “She’s a gypsy princess with balls,” he told us when we visited the set. “That’s what Noomi brings to the table.”

The other new addition was “Mad Men” actor Jared Harris, who won the coveted role of the villainous Professor Moriarty. Harris couldn’t give us many details about the role when we caught up with him in early ’11, but he did gush about the “great fun” he had on set.

Setting the Shadowy Tone
As we started to inch closer to the film’s release, we started to see that the sequel was going to be a bit darker via the first official posters, photos and the first full-length trailer. It’s not all dark and stormy, of course, since a lot of the fun of the first film was in the whimsical moments between Downey and Law, and Holmes’ various disguises, as revealed in this funny clip featuring more of RDG in drag.

When MTV News caught up with the main players recently, Downey assured us the film is a “superior product” and that everyone had gone to great lengths to make it bigger and better. Perhaps Ritchie summed it up best: “All in all, we tried to basically put this film on ‘roids.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.”
